The first Imperials were launched as a separate make under the Imperial Division, with styling by Virgil Exner that was inspired by his 1952 show cars, a wider spaced egg crate grille and free standing gunsight taillights. They used a first generation Hemi V8, power brakes and steering and the PowerFlite automatic as standard on a body shared with the big Chrysler but four inches longer. Tailfins arrived for 1956. Its model years run from 1955 to 1956.
