The 1955 Imperial was launched as a separate make, with a body shared with that year's big Chryslers but a wheelbase four inches longer, a wide egg crate grille like the Chrysler 300 and free standing gunsight taillights. The Newport hardtop coupe and the pillared sedan were the two regular models, with a Crown limousine, and the Hemi V8 of 250 horsepower, power brakes and steering and the PowerFlite automatic were standard. Production was 11,430, more than twice the 1954 figure.
