A 0.5 inch body lift was made for the 1996 model year to accommodate the turbo housing of the 6.5 liter diesel engine. The H1 shared brakes, axles and frame with the military HMMWV, along with major body panels such as the hood, tailgate and quarter panels, and all H1s and HMMWVs were produced on the same assembly line, with the civilian H1s painted and finished in a separate building. The 1996 H1 kept the Humvee driveline parts shared with the military truck.
