Honda introduced the first generation Today, chassis JW1, as a three door hatchback in September of 1985, and at first it was sold only as a light commercial van because the tax system favored such vehicles. Only intended for the Japanese domestic market, it was initially launched with three model specifications, the entry model the F, followed by the M and the top of the range G, at the newly established Japanese Honda Primo dealerships. The flat roof hatchback design was shared with the supermini Honda City, the compact Honda Civic and the mid size Honda Accord AeroDeck. In March 1990 the engine was enlarged to 656 cc. Each model year has its own page.
