The Honda Rafaga was discontinued in 1997. Japan's economy was sliding into recession after the bubble years, and demand for the Accord stayed strong, so Honda dropped the Rafaga and the Ascot in 1997 and put the Honda Torneo in their place. Sales had suffered because the lengthwise installation of the five-cylinder engine and the compact-class length limit compromised rear passenger accommodation.
