The 2003 Honda Element was launched with two trim levels, DX and EX, with production and sales beginning in December 2002. Every trim had the 160 hp 2.4 liter K24A4 four cylinder, an engine it shared with the seventh generation North American Accord, and all wheel drive models had a big rear moonroof. Side airbags became an option later in the model year on the EX. Honda projected first year sales of 50,000, but 67,478 Elements were sold in the US in 2003.
