The CR-V outsold every other vehicle in its class until 2001, when the Ford Escape and its twin, the Mazda Tribute, sold more. Satin Silver Metallic replaced Sebring Silver Metallic as a North American colour in 2001. The second generation CR-V went on sale on 13 November 2001 as a full redesign using the seventh generation Civic as its base with the K24A1 engine, bringing to a close the first generation that started in Japan in 1995.
