The fourth-generation Honda Civic ran from 1987 to 1991 and was launched in 1987 as a 1988 model; in some markets the wagon stayed on sale until 1996. It brought a new double-wishbone front suspension, an independent rear suspension, a longer wheelbase and a lower hood line with more glass for less drag. In Japan the SiR of late 1989 carried the first B-series engine, which introduced Honda's VTEC variable valve timing. It was in Car and Driver's 10Best list for all four of its years. Each model year, 1988 to 1991, has its own page.
