Honda showed the first-generation BR-V, chassis DG1 and DG2, as a prototype on 20 August 2015 at the 23rd Gaikindo auto show in Indonesia; it was the third model developed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific in Thailand, after the Amaze and Mobilio, which were also derived from the Brio. According to Honda Prospect Motor's director it would serve as an answer to rising customer demand for an affordable SUV that rides high, has a sleek design and is capable of loading 7 passengers. It was available with a 1.5 liter L15Z1 i-VTEC petrol engine or a 1.5 liter N15A1 turbo diesel. Each model year has its own page.
