The Toyota Aqua is a full hybrid subcompact hatchback in the B segment that Toyota has made and sold since 2011. The name belongs to the Japanese domestic market only, because the car was exported as the Prius c, a smaller alternative to the Prius liftback that borrowed its popularity. The production version of the first generation was shown at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, after the Prius c concept at the Detroit show in January 2011. By January 2017 the Aqua and Prius c had sold 1,380,100 units worldwide, 1,154,500 of them in Japan, and in 2013 some argued it was the most successful nameplate launch in Japan for twenty years. A crossover-inspired variant came with the first facelift of December 2014 and was renamed Aqua Crossover in 2017.
