The Agila A was the first generation of the Opel Agila, a rebadged version of the Suzuki Wagon R+, which was produced in Japan and later given the Solio surname. Sales began in August 2000 and the Agila was built at Opel's factory in Gliwice, Poland, while the European Suzuki Wagon R+ was built in Hungary. Its Opel-sourced 1.0 and 1.2 litre petrol engines were smaller than the 1.3 litre in the European Wagon R+, and the cam-chain Opel engines proved less reliable than the Suzuki cambelt unit. The facelift came in August 2003, bringing a 1.25-litre diesel option and TwinPort petrol engines.
