Mercedes-Benz A-Class

Automobiles

The A-Class is the entry-level car of Mercedes-Benz, a front-engine, front-wheel drive five-door hatchback that has been sold across four generations. The first generation, coded W168, was shown in 1996, launched at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show and built until 2004, so it spent its later years under DaimlerChrysler. It was styled by Steve Mattin and noted for a short, narrow footprint and a tall body that gave the interior room of a much larger car. A moose-test rollover in 1997 led the maker to recall every car sold and add electronic stability control. Later generations grew in length and width, and the fourth generation of 2018 was the first sold in the United States and Canada.
