Daihatsu UFE-III

Automobiles

The Daihatsu UFE-III, short for Ultra Fuel Economy third generation, is a mini-hybrid concept car first shown in October 2005 at the Tokyo Motor Show. It carries three people, one driver and two passengers in the rear. Its hybrid system combines a 660 cc direct-injection gasoline engine, two electric motors and a nickel-metal hydride battery, and Daihatsu estimated fuel economy at 72 kilometres per litre. The body is made of polymer and ultra-light aluminium, with a canopy door and pointed LED headlamps, and the car has a very low drag coefficient of 0.168. It is controlled by steer-by-wire technology, which makes it a technology showcase for the third generation of the Ultra Fuel Economy series.
