Production of the Honda Insight was halted with an announcement in May 2006, with plans to replace it with a new hybrid car smaller than the eighth generation Civic, but not earlier than 2009. During 2006 a Honda Insight took five wins and the Class A title in the United Kingdom's Formula 1000 Rally. Honda had first planned on selling 6,500 first generation Insights a year, but over 7 years the global total came to 17,020 units.
