The Mark I Ford Consul and Zephyr models were first displayed at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1950, the first mass produced British cars to use MacPherson strut independent front suspension. The Zephyr was a lengthened version of the four cylinder Consul, with a 2,262 cc six cylinder engine producing 68 horsepower. Like the Consul, the Zephyr came with a three speed gearbox, controlled by a column mounted lever. The Zephyr was an executive car from Ford of Britain, the six cylinder counterpart of the four cylinder Consul.
