In 1981 the Transit Clubmobil was introduced by the Hymer company for the mainland European market only, and the Amsterdam factory, which had built Transits for the Dutch market since the mid 1970s, closed in December 1981 even though the Transit sold well in the Netherlands. Hyundai in South Korea ended its Transit based van that year. The Transit continued as the Mark II built at Southampton and Genk.
