Production of the third generation Transit ended in 2013, with the Southampton plant closing and making this generation the last of the British built Transits, though it returned in China in two modified forms. The fourth generation was launched in January 2013 at the Detroit show. In South Africa a fully imported Transit was introduced in 2013, the first sold there since 1974. The Southampton plant had built the Transit for decades before closing.
