For 1988 the Tempo and Topaz sedans were redesigned and the coupes facelifted, each more closely resembling its Taurus and Sable counterpart, and the cars arrived in November 1987. The Tempo received a grille with three thin horizontal chrome bars, composite flush mounted rectangular headlamps and restyled front turn signals, and the GLS had a black grille. Both models got revised instrument panels with a standard engine temperature gauge.
