SuperCab Rangers gained the option of two rear hinged doors for 1999, in line with the larger F-150, becoming the first model line in the compact truck segment to offer them. Ford introduced Sport and Off Road variants of the XL and XLT trims, in effect replacing the Splash and STX, and a low content XL Fleet model. Nickel metal hydride batteries were introduced in the Ranger EV for 1999. In 1999 the 3.0 liter V6 was still on offer alongside the 4.0 liter V6.
