The 1986 Mustang GT received drivetrain upgrades, including a larger 10.5 inch clutch, and its 302 models were given a new 8.8 inch rear axle while the four cylinder and V6 cars kept the 7.5 inch unit. Ford released the first multiport fuel injection for the V8 that year. The turbocharged SVO ended its three year run with 200 horsepower, and the center high mounted brake light was now part of the standard rear spoiler on hatchbacks.
