The 1983 Mustang had a reshaped, more rounded nose and a revised grille, and wider horizontal taillights with their own amber turn signals replaced the old vertical sectioned units. It was the first Mustang to wear the Blue Oval emblem on the outside, both front and rear. Ford added a convertible after a nine year absence, and most of those were fitted with the new 3.8 liter Essex V6. A five speed manual became the standard gearbox behind the 302 early in the year.
