In 2018 the Mondeo kept selling as the Mk 5 in Britain, built in Valencia, with a torque vectoring system for better handling. The car shared its platform with the Galaxy and S-Max large MPVs, and the market was moving toward crossovers and SUVs, which would later lead Ford to end the model in Europe. The car was based on a new iteration of Ford's C and D platform. A facelift for the 2020 model year was prepared and shown in January 2019.
