In 2017 the Mondeo was in the middle of its life as Ford's main family car in Europe, with the Valencia plant building the liftback, sedan and estate and the Mk 5 numbering used in Britain. It carried Ford's Kinetic global design language, as also seen on the third generation Focus and the Escape and Kuga, and an integral link rear suspension with a stiffer platform and body structure. By this time buyer interest in Europe was moving toward crossovers and SUVs.
