The fourth generation Mondeo continued in 2016 as a rebadged variant of the American Fusion for Europe, Latin America, China and Australia, in a range with a complete set of EcoBoost engines and no five or six cylinders. Ford's Australian Falcon and Territory were replaced in 2016, and Ford's clean sheet architecture was meant to accommodate both large passenger car and SUV roles when they did. It used a global platform shared with the nearly identical Fusion sold in North America.
