The Maverick had a single generation. It was introduced on 17 April 1969 as a 1970 model at 1,995 dollars, the smallest Ford in the United States, and was conceived as an import fighter against the Datsun 610 and Toyota Mark II. It had the long hood, fastback roof and short deck of the Mustang on a 103 inch wheelbase, and sold nearly 579,000 in its first year. Demand grew after the 1973 oil crisis and the Fairmont replaced it after 1977. Each model year has its own page.
