A four door Maverick sedan on a 109.9 inch wheelbase was introduced for 1971, and could have a vinyl roof. Mercury also revived the Comet as a rebadged variant of the Maverick, distinguished by a different grille, taillights, trim and hood. An optional 210 horsepower 302 cubic inch V8 was introduced for both the Maverick and the Comet. The Grabber trim package from mid 1970 came with a special dual scoop hood in 1971.
