The Landau joined the existing Galaxie 500 and LTD in the showrooms in 1976 as Ford's new top of the range model, with a radical restyle that recalled the 1965 Lincoln Continental. All three models used the new 302 cubic inch V8 engine, which replaced the heavier 292. Output was 5,556 cars. The Landau was Ford's top model in Brazil and the only large American style sedan the company built there. Ford Brasil produced it at its São Paulo area plant for twelve years.
