The Landau went into production in 1971 at the Ford plant in the São Bernardo do Campo area of São Paulo, after its launch at the 1970 São Paulo Auto Show, and it became the flagship of the Ford range in Brazil. It was a four door sedan built from the 1966 American Galaxie. Ford Brasil produced it at its São Paulo area plant for twelve years. The Landau was Ford's top model in Brazil and the only large American style sedan the company built there.
