In 1998 the Galaxy was the best selling people carrier in the United Kingdom, outselling the Volkswagen Sharan, and 12,233 people bought one that year, twice the market share of its nearest rival according to the company. Its mechanicals were largely Volkswagen Group parts, including the 1.9 TDI diesel. The Galaxy was a seven seat people carrier that Ford built for the European market, sharing its platform with the Mondeo in its later forms.
