The Freda of 1999 had air conditioning, often with climate control, and electronic blinds as standard, and some Freda and Bongo Friendee vans had Mazda factory fitted kitchen units. Many were later converted to camper vans, with fold down seats making a double bed and an elevating roof for two more. Ford sold it through its partner dealers in Japan, and many were later converted into camper vans. The Freda was a Ford badged copy of the Mazda Bongo Friendee eight seat minivan sold in Japan.
