1979 Ford Falcon (Australia)

Automobiles

Ford's next model Falcon, the XD, codenamed Project Blackwood, introduced in 1979, bore many external styling resemblances to the European Ford Granada but was slightly larger and less luxurious. The Fairmont Ghia replaced the Fairmont GXL. Improved body reinforcing allowed many reductions in component weight, improving performance and braking. Ford dealers aggressively pitched the Cortina 6 against the Holden Commodore alternative until the XD Falcon arrived in 1979.
