On 23 May 2013 Ford Australia announced the end of its local manufacturing operations, involving the Falcon and Territory, by October 2016, with the Falcon nameplate destined to retire after 56 years of continuous production in Australia. A high manufacturing cost base and unsustainably low sales of its Australian made products were factors. The decision was attributable to the One Ford plan introduced in 2008. The Falcon was a full size car made by Ford Australia.
