The high performance Lightning trim was introduced in March 1999, as the second generation SVT Lightning, built on the PN96 platform after a three year gap, with a 5.4 liter supercharged V8 of 360 horsepower. The SuperCab had a fourth door after the 1999 model year. The manual transmission was removed from the Lariat for the 1999 model year, and for 1999 the F-250HD and F-350 were replaced by the Super Duty trucks.
