For 1954 the grille was revised, with a single slanted design between the headlamps. The powertrain changed again: a newly enlarged 223 cubic inch inline six of 115 horsepower was the base engine, and the Flathead V8, which had made its debut in the 1939 Mercury, was discontinued, replaced by the overhead valve Y-Block V8 of 239 cubic inches and 130 horsepower, a significant increase in power. The trucks were now called Triple Economy models.
