Ford trailed its rival General Motors in combined truck sales for much of the ninth generation, though sales steadily rose each year, to nearly 800,000 by 1996, which allowed Ford to overtake the combined sales of Chevrolet and GMC trucks for the first time in a decade. The F-250 and F-350 of 1996 remained on the previous generation chassis while the tenth generation F-150 was released for 1997, and an F-150 Eddie Bauer was still offered.
