For 2002 the chassis of the Sport Trac gained four wheel disc brakes in place of rear drums, and the exterior badges were revised, with the Explorer name dropped from the doors and the Sport Trac tailgate lettering turned chrome. It was sold in XLS and XLT trim levels that year. The Sport Trac was a mid size crew cab pickup that Ford built on a lengthened Explorer chassis, the first mid size pickup Ford produced. All production came from the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, where it took the place of the Ranger.
