For the 2010 model year Ford's MyKey became standard on all Explorers fitted with the Sync system, and the V8 was restricted to four wheel drive models. The last fourth generation Explorer rolled off the assembly line on 16 December 2010, ending production at the Louisville and St. Louis plants, which had built every Explorer since 1991, in favor of the Chicago plant for the fifth generation. The fifth generation would follow for 2011.
