For 2008 Ford added standard side curtain airbags on all Explorers. The 2008 Explorer was also the first Ford vehicle to use the cap-less fuel filler system, though it was fitted only from mid year. Three new colors, Stone Green, Vapor Silver and White Suede, were added, and all Explorers now came with body color fender lip and bumper cladding, with Pueblo Gold cladding on the Eddie Bauer models. The standard engine remained the 4.0 liter V6.
