For 1987 and 1988 the 1.9 L engine of the EXP Luxury Coupe was equipped with throttle body fuel injection, called Central Fuel Injection by Ford, and made 90 horsepower. For 1987 the output of the Sport Coupe engine was increased to 115 horsepower. The EXP shared its redesigned interior and exterior with the rest of the Escort line, with flush mounted headlamps and a model specific front bumper with an integrated air dam.
