The Mark II was in its fifth year in 1979, with three special edition Escorts launched across 1979 and 1980: the Linnet, Harrier and Goldcrest. They gave dealers a way to keep sales moving as the car neared replacement by the front wheel drive Mark III already being finished in Britain, and they sat alongside the usual Popular, L, GL, Ghia, Sport, Mexico and RS2000 versions, which stayed on sale in two door, four door and estate bodies.
