Before its closure in 2005 Lorain Assembly in Lorain, Ohio, built the E Series from its launch in 1961, and the 2005 vans were among the last from that plant. The E Series continued at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, the plant that had built it since 1975. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis.
