For 2004 the 7.3 litre diesel of the E Series was replaced by a 6.0 litre diesel from Navistar, with an intercooler, though Ford had to detune it because of limited airflow in the engine compartment. The V6 was dropped and the 4.6 litre V8 became the standard engine. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014.
