The 1987 Country Squire kept the sequential port fuel injected 4.9 litre V8 introduced for 1986 and continued as the counterpart of the LTD Crown Victoria, with simulated woodgrain trim, eight passenger seating and a Magic Doorgate style tailgate. The first external updates since 1979 would follow for 1988. The Mercury counterpart was the Colony Park, which gained GS and LS trim levels for 1987. The Country Squire was the top level Ford station wagon, distinguished by woodgrain bodyside trim.
