In 1976 the Corcel line switched to constant velocity joints, after racing showed that the front drive universal joint was prone to break under heavy stress. The Corcel GT did well in Brazilian rally and track championships, though it could not beat the V8 Maverick or the Chevrolet Opala. The Corcel was a front wheel drive family car that Ford sold in Brazil and neighbouring countries, built on Renault underpinnings. Ford do Brasil gained the design when it bought Willys do Brasil in 1967.
