After Ford do Brasil received a new head, Joseph O'Neill, in 1970, the company decided to remedy the poor quality of the early Corcel. In what was the first automotive recall in Brazil, 65,000 owners were contacted and free repairs were offered. The Corcel was a front wheel drive family car that Ford sold in Brazil and neighbouring countries, built on Renault underpinnings. Ford do Brasil gained the design when it bought Willys do Brasil in 1967.
