The first Corcel was produced in 1968 and debuted as a four door sedan at São Paulo, with a 1.3 litre water cooled Renault Cleon engine of 68 horsepower. Ford had inherited the project when it bought Willys do Brasil, so the Corcel was shown nearly two years before the Renault 12 on which it was based. The Corcel was a front wheel drive family car that Ford sold in Brazil and neighbouring countries, built on Renault underpinnings.
