For 2000 the displacement of the Duratec V6 decreased slightly, with the compression ratio increased to compensate, to keep the engine used in Mazda vehicles at a lower tax level in Japan. A rear spoiler option was added for the SVT, ground effect side skirts on the SE Sport were discontinued, and four cylinder Contours continued as fleet vehicles only. The last Ford Contour rolled off the assembly line on 19 October 2000.
