In 1983 the Capri continued in a shrinking range. Its 2.8 Injection model, with fuel injection and, at first, a four speed gearbox that was soon replaced by a five speed unit, was the focus, and the Capri was still among the most popular sports coupes in Britain, also one of the most stolen cars of the 1980s and early 1990s. Ford had decided not to develop a direct successor, since it did not believe demand for affordable coupes in Europe justified one.
