The Capri II was introduced on 25 February 1974 after 1.2 million Capris had been sold. With the 1973 oil crisis in mind, Ford made it more suited to everyday driving, with a shorter bonnet, a larger cabin and a hatchback rear door opening onto a 630 liter boot, making the Capri the first Ford with a hatchback. The 2.0 liter Pinto engine was introduced in the European range below the 2.3 and 3.0 liter V6s. Its model years run from 1974 to 1977.
