On 25 February 1974 the Capri II was introduced, with a revised, larger body, a shorter bonnet, a larger cabin, a more modern dashboard, a smaller steering wheel and a hatchback rear door. The 2.0 liter Pinto engine was introduced in the European model, below the 2.3 and 3.0 liter V6s. After 1.2 million cars sold, and with the oil crisis of 1973, Ford wanted a car better suited to everyday use, so the new body trailed the long bonnet and short boot of the original for a more practical, roomy shape.
